Nicholas Boyarski
Patent Attorney

Nick has served clients for over 16 years as a patent attorney. He specializes in preparing and prosecuting patent applications for mechanical inventions. He has prepared over 300 patent applications. Nick began his career as a mechanical engineer at Ford Motor Company. There, he developed and tested engine technologies for F-Series trucks. While at Ford, he also worked at Ford Global Technologies, LLC, a subsidiary that develops and commercializes Ford’s patent portfolio. That positive experience changed the trajectory of his career from engineering to patent law. During law school, Nick worked at PING, Inc., a golf equipment manufacturer in Arizona. He assisted with patent preparation and provided litigation support. After law school, Nick worked in private practice at Steptoe & Johnson LLP in Washington, D.C., an international law firm with more than 500 attorneys worldwide. He focused on patent preparation, prosecution, and litigation. He worked on patent applications for solar modules, internal combustion engines, GPS-based devices, adaptive learning algorithms, and a variety of consumer products. He also assisted with patent litigation cases in various U.S. district courts and before the U.S. International Trade Commission. Subsequently, Nick served as in-house patent counsel to Otter Products, LLC in Colorado. There, he prepared and prosecuted patent applications for mobile device accessories and evaluated patent portfolios for acquisition. In 2014, Nick co-founded Ebullient, Inc. with colleagues from the University of Wisconsin-Madison to develop two-phase liquid cooling technology for data centers. Most recently, Nick served as Vice President of Legal at LiquidStack Inc., a manufacturer of data center cooling equipment. The company was acquired by Trane Technologies in 2026.   EDUCATION Arizona State University – Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law (J.D., 2009) University of Wisconsin-Madison (M.S., Mechanical Engineering, 2004) University of Wisconsin-Madison (B.S., Mechanical Engineering, 2002) Technical courses completed: calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, mechanics of materials, statistics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, energy systems laboratory, machine elements, measurements laboratory, geometric modeling, manufacturing processes, technical writing, physics, circuits, dynamic systems, material science, internal combustion engines, optics, power conversion BAR ADMISSIONS Colorado U.S. Patent & Trademark Office Arizona (Inactive) District of Columbia (Inactive) PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) National Association of Patent Practitioners (NAPP) Colorado Bar Association PUBLICATIONS “Privilege Primer for Attorneys Approaching Joint Defense Agreements in Section 337 Litigation,” 337 Reporter, Vol. XXIV, 83, Boyarski, N.; Schill, C.; Kipel, A.
